"MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS"
FACE THE ISSUE
Working closely with the director Nathan Breton, we crafted the soundscape for 6 spots (3 shown above) supporting Mental Health Awareness month through Face The Issue. Riding the line of sonic realism, we wanted to support the sentiment of breaking a stigma that surrounds mental health problems by promoting healthy conversation. A dominance of the soundscape overtaking the picture was the result of that goal. The swells are derived from the sonic reality our subjects live in, and act as a vehicle for portraying negativity in the absence of communication. To illustrate the impact of conversation, we swell to a moment of clarity in the form of a text message.

About Face The Issue
Our goal is simple: to break the stigma and resulting silence that surrounds a wide range of mental health issues by promoting healthy, productive conversations.
This site serves as resource for those with a friend or loved one who is suffering alone. Starting a conversation is the first step in supporting those with mental illness and helping to guide them toward recovery. Face the Issue first launched in 2003 as an online resource for mental health sufferers. With animated shorts narrated by celebrities like Nicole Kidman and Halle Berry and a forum for anonymous group support, the site was a huge success both in building a community and raising awareness around mental health issues.
