TIDES OF FATE
THE 34TH AMERICA'S CUP
DIRECTED BY FRITZ MITCHELL
Working closely with Director Fritz Mitchell, we handled audio post on the suspenseful and exciting feature documentary Tides of Fate. The film follows the enthralling story of the 34th America's Cup Regatta in San Fransisco, when Team Oracle USA came back from a 7 race deficit to overtake the kiwis and claim the cup. Narrated by Jeremy Irons, the story unfolds through the lens of the sailors themselves, and the audience gets an inside look at the dedication and detail put in to every aspect of these incredible regattas.
Take a look at a few scenes we've selected from the film above.

The approach taken for the film, having worked alongside Mitchell on other projects, was that of expanding the pallett of what was given to us. We worked to make the races hit harder, the music push through when it needed to, and the environment to live with the picture in a way that supported this great story. Pulling from our library, as well as going out and doing a bit of field recording, the goal was to capture a variance of winds and water that would flesh out different sequences of timelapse footage, race footage, and B roll. A composite of the sounds we captured and sourced were the answer to creating a unique sonic character for the film, bringing a tonality to scenes that enhanced the pace and excitement of the imagery.
